in Marshalltown, where she had resided for the past 2 ½ years.
Louise was born January 18, 1922 in Clark, South Dakota to Frank and Clara (Esperson) Son. She later moved with her family to Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the second of eight children. Francis Louise Son married Francis George Backoff on March 8, 1941. Louise was a homemaker and mother to their seven children. Louise loved to cook, and will be remembered for her Sunday and holiday dinners. She enjoyed her flower garden, and at one time had huge vegetable gardens. Nothing went to waste, she would spend many days canning the produce. She enjoyed playing cards, board games and bingo. She always had a jig saw puzzle that she was working on.
Louise is survived by her seven children: Margaret Rogge of Peru, IL; Russ (Connie) Backoff of Clovis, NM; Ed (Mary) Backoff of Marshalltown; Jerry (Cindy) Backoff of Tama, IA; Bill (Tammy) Backoff of Marshalltown, Barb (Bob) McFarland of Iowa City; and Bob Backoff of Marshalltown. Her sisters Nina O'Bryon of Ankeny; Darlene Gohring of Wichita, KS; and Beverly (Lloyd) Anselme of State Center. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, in 2010; her parents Frank and Clara; siblings Robert Son, Claribel Crane, Doris Martinez, and Hubert Son.
Louise will be greatly missed.
The family especially thanks the very caring staff at Bickford Senior Living.
