Orvith “Duane” Holman

Orvith “Duane” Holman, 96 of Union, IA passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, IA. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Conrad Cemetery. Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com

Duane was born January 30, 1928, the son of Fred and Clara (Crecelius) Holman. He attended country schools through 8th grade, later attending Marshalltown High School. At the age of 18, Duane enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Aleutian Islands, AK. After serving his country, Duane was very involved in farming. He worked on a strawberry farm for several years while living in Washington state. After the passing of his parents Duane came back to Iowa to help his sister with the family farm.

Duane loved his dogs and even helped his family members with grooming. His cars would always be spotless. He’d even stop to wipe any dust down after driving on gravel, because keeping them clean was so important to him. One of Duane’s favorite shows was the “Price is Right.”

He is survived by his 3 nieces, Dorothy (Ron) Beeghly of Conrad, IA, Janet Smitherman of Union, IA, and Donna (Mark) Schleisman of Manchester, IA; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his two sisters Verdeene Crister and Velda Dunn.
