She grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1944 and then studied art at a college in Boulder, Colorado. Shirley married Don McKee in 1947 and had two children, Sharyn and Michael. In her spare time, she did gardening, tennis, bridge, Catholic study club and showed ponies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald McKee, second husband Donald Freers, brother Merrill Brooks, sister Beverly Morris, and son-in-law Frank Streicher.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sharyn Streicher, Madison, WI and her son, Michael McKee, St. Paul, MN, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A small family service will be held later in Marshalltown, Iowa.
