Sara Thatcher

Sara Thatcher, 99, of Liscomb/Conrad, IA passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Private graveside services will be held. Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Sara was born December 27, 1924, to Mac and Ruby (Lighter) Hughes at the family farm in rural Conrad. She graduated from Conrad High School with the class of 1942. She was united in marriage to Milon “Bud” Thatcher on August 19, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The two made their home on a farm in rural Liscomb. Sara helped Bud on the farm before becoming an LPN at age 45. She worked at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad for 20 years. Sara was a proud churchgoer, attending in the areas she lived. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting and sewing, cooking and baking (especially cookies), flowers, crosswords, and religiously reading before bed. Most of all, Sara enjoyed spending time with her family.

Sara will be greatly missed by her son, Jerry (Karen) Thatcher of rural Marshalltown, one grandson, Jeff (Pam) Thatcher of Union, IA, one granddaughter-in-law, Lynne Thatcher, seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Pat McAllister of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milon “Bud”, a grandson, Tom Thatcher, her siblings and their spouses; Lillian Pabst, Irene Long, Dora Osbourne, Margaret Zorn, Betty Lynch, Laurence, Jack, and Donald, whom was killed in battle during WWII.
