Marcia Hanson

Marcia Jean Hanson, 76, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in the comfort of her home.
A Celebration of Life for Marcia will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Marcia Jean Chute was born on November 30, 1947 in Mason City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert Joseph and Mary Jean (Carlson) Chute. Marcia graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids in 1966 and went on to nursing training as a LPN at St. Luke’s Hospital.
On September 20, 1969, Marcia was united in marriage to James Robert Hanson at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa. She worked at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, retiring in 2007. Marcia enjoyed spending time with her friends and family (especially her grandkids), Christmas and watching HGTV. She loved Elvis, talking on the phone, shopping, telling jokes/stories and traveling, especially to China and Alaska with Jim and boating at Lake of the Ozarks and Lake Ponderosa.
Marcia is survived by her husband of fifty-four years: Jim; children: Carrie (Chip) Bailey of Pittsboro, North Carolina and Deb (Deric) Van Dyke of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren: Chaz, Colton, Caitlin, Devon and Delaney. She is also survived by siblings: Michael (Sara Oltrogge) Chute, Mindy (Rick) Jost, Mark (Sheryl) Chute, Marty (Awilda) Chute, Michelle (Steve) Thornburg and Matt (Tracie) Chute.
Marcia is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary, and siblings Mary Ann and Merle Franklin.
Memorial donations received will be donated in Marcia’s honor to the Iowa Veterans Home Christmas Fund.
