Lois Manship

Lois Manship, 84, passed away on Monday September 16, 2024 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa. Lois Marie Knoll was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to Alfred and Freida Knoll. She enjoyed her friends, playing cards, and reading. She is survived by her two sons Kevin (Cyndi) of Des Moines, Iowa and Ken (Jennifer) of Nampa, Idaho, and her two grandchildren Savannah of Des Moines, Iowa and Jacob of Prairie City, Iowa. Preceding her in death are her daughter Kimberly and her parents Alfred and Freida.

Despite growing up on a farm, Lois was not a farmer. She showed real talent as a candy striper helping people in her local hospital. Lois met and married John Manship. John was in the Navy, and Lois moved with him in the early years, enjoying the warm breezes of San Diego the most. John and Lois returned home to Iowa and started their family with the birth of Kevin Joseph Manship followed by Kimberley Ann Manship and Ken Michael Manship. After her divorce, Lois raised her children as a single mother. She made sure her kids had everything they needed while she worked full-time, beat Cancer, and was an active part of her church and social groups. Lois played a mean hand of cards, enjoying games with friends over coffee and pastries. She was a member of a divorcee support group and made lifelong friends with other members. Lois held a devout love of God and was a proud member of St Teresa’s Catholic Church. She was a career woman, working for Wells Fargo as an executive assistant, often stepping in as a personal banker to the CEO’s family because she was so trusted in her role. Once Lois “retired” she returned to her first passion, helping in hospitals. She was the first contact at the front desk, helping calm worried patients and family. Lois was a mother, grandmother, and beloved friend who will be truly missed by all of us that love her.

Visitation will begin at 10AM on Friday September 27, 2024 at St Teresa’s Catholic Church (1230 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, Iowa, 50311). Funeral services will begin immediately after at 11AM. Inurnment will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens (1 Northeast 60th Ave, Des Moines, Iowa, 50313) at 1PM.
