Ramona Milleson

The generous and loving spirit of 96-year-old Ramona Milleson, of Marshalltown (formerly of Colo), departed this earthly life on Saturday morning, September 28th at the Iowa Veterans Home under the wonderful care of their staff. Born on September 21, 1928, at the home of her grandparents, Frederick, and Elizabeth (Wolken) Fricke in rural State Center, Iowa, the daughter of Ervin Elmer and Marie Emma (Fricke) Eggers. She received her education at St. John's Parochial School through eighth grade. Then she continued her life education by working on the family farm, gardening, canning food and helping her mother care for her five brothers. She met the love of her life at 16 at a family member's wedding. Roscoe Milleson, of Melbourne, and Ramona married on September 22, 1946, in State Center, Iowa. They were blessed with five children and 70 years of marriage.

Ramona's love of the lord and her family gave her the most joy in her life. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at many reunions. She also enjoyed traveling, square dancing, playing cards, fishing and hunting and bowled well into her 90s. She also worked with her husband for several years plumbing and being his “right-hand man.” After retiring from plumbing, they moved to Missouri enjoying a slower pace of life for several years. When the opportunity came to move back to be closer to family and friends again. They spent many years in Colo gardening and canning that produce, babysitting many children that called her “Mona.” Having potluck meals at the drop of a hat. She would feed anyone who showed up at her door.

Ramona is survived by her daughter Anna Hartwig, of Texas, sons, Earl (Nancy) Milleson, and Larry Milleson, and daughter Lou Ann Cooling, all of Iowa. Twelve grandchildren: Candice (Matt) Dole, Bryn (Melissa)Dutton, Crisha (Kirk) Miller, Phillip Milleson, Bret (Sara) Dutton, Corky (John) Angell, Pat Milleson, Andrea Cooling, Amanda Nablo, Price (Summer Aikin) Milleson, Paul Milleson and Ross Milleson. She has twenty-five great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren: one brother, Reuben Eggers, and two sisters-in-law, Jane Frericks and Betty Fink.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Susan Keen and Cindy Milleson (infant), four brothers: Vernon, Merle, Glen and Elmer Eggers and four sisters-in-law: Louise Luthi, Helen Perin, Darleen Jacob and Erma Plate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Colo Fire & EMS in Colo, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on October 4, at 10 A.M at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. The funeral will follow at 11 A.M. A luncheon will follow the service, and burial will take place in Melbourne, IA.
