Bette was born May 11, 1927, to Lloyd and Annabelle (Palmer) Davis in Nebraska. Shortly after her family made their home in Conrad where she would attend Conrad High School. When Bette turned 17, she was united in marriage to Carroll Hammond. The two started their family on a farm in rural Conrad and would spend most of their life as hardworking farmers. Although Bette was a homemaker, her strong work ethic had her farming right alongside her husband and son. What little free time she allowed herself, she enjoyed mowing the yard and playing cards. Bette and Carroll took a break from farming and opened “Wayne’s Steakhouse” in Grinnell, IA. After seven years they decided to return to their true love of farming. The two enjoyed any time spent together from working to making memories until his passing in 2006.

Bette will be missed by her daughter, Anita Wall of Brea, CA, seven grandchildren, an abundance of great-grandchildren, her sister, Karen “Peachie” Pierson of Hubbard, IA, and a herd of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll, her son, Timothy Hammond, and her granddaughter, Wendi Wall.
