Born on July 12th, 1938, in Marshalltown, he was the only child of Jesse and Alice (Talbot) Mann. He began his education in the Spring Valley School, then Ferguson public schools and finally Marshalltown High School, graduating in 1956. That same year, he began a 39 year career with Iowa Electric Light and Power (now Alliant Energy), retiring in 1995 from the Sutherland Station.
Jerry always had a strong work ethic and devoted countless hours to farming besides his full-time career at I.E. He spent time repairing and fixing things around the home place and for others. He could always be recognized for sporting bolo ties, impressive belt buckles and western attire- always looking good. The right pair of boots completing the outfit. He enjoyed collecting Wild Turkey decanters and ball caps but the time spent with family was precious.
On October 25th, 1967, he was united in marriage to Ruth Paul in Las Vegas, NV. The family of himself, Ruth and three children called the area south of Marshalltown on Highway #14 home.
Jerry is blessed with his children: Terri (Norm) Thompson, Jeff (Cindy) Mann and Lori (Kent) Dougherty; six grandchildren- Melissa (Adam) Johnson, Jennifer (James) Taylor, Daniel Thompson, Justin (Aubra) Dougherty, Jessica (Matt) Vint and Heather Mann as well as nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
In death, Jerry rejoined his parents and beloved wife, Ruth.
