Floyd Pratt

Floyd Richard Pratt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, 83, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Friday, November 21, 2025, at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Memorial visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Floyd was born July 27, 1942, in Stockport, Iowa to Floyd and Virginia (Veatch) Pratt. He attended and graduated from Eldora High School and later attended the University of Iowa.

Floyd lived in southern Iowa and Eldora before moving to Marshalltown where he worked at Fisher Controls as a draftsman for 43 years. During that time, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1966-1968. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Iowa AF & AM, Lodge 117 for over 57 years, and was a frequent volunteer at the House of Compassion in Marshalltown.

He married Sharon Lee Hoy on November 14, 1970, at Bethel Grove Christian Church (Liscomb, Iowa). He was the father of three sons and a daughter.

He was an avid rock climber and sought adventures in his youth, became passionate about blacksmithing later in life which helped him channel his creativity and skill, and had a voracious appetite for reading throughout his life. He had an adventurous spirit, whether hiking up a trail, camping, cycling, rollerblading, rowing, sailing, or cross-country skiing. He cherished being outdoors in nature.

His other passion was watching and coaching his sons in sports and other activities. He was present in both their victories and challenges. Floyd was a devoted father who was deeply involved in the lives of his children, offering guidance, love, and support through every stage of their lives and grandchildren’s lives.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons Mark (Bonnie) of Anthem, AZ, John (Heather) of Lawton, OK, and Stewart (Shayra) of Lake Oswego, OR; twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister Lorene (John) Massa of Kansas City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jacob, and cherished four-legged companions Vrienden and Pippi.
