Joe is survived by his beloved wife Betty (Halverson) Overstake, whom he married on July 7, 1957. He is also survived by four sons: Ricky (Deborah) Overstake, David (Tamara) Overstake, Stan (Elizabeth) Overstake, and Jerry (Lynn) Overstake; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family.
