Paul Womack

Paul Norbert Womack, 83 years old, of Altoona, Iowa, died December 6, 2025. Paul was born September 20, 1942, in New Hampton, Iowa, the only child of Albert (Hap) and Miriam Artman Womack. He was raised in Melbourne, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1960. After high school, Paul spent 3 years in the army, having been stationed in Colorado and Verdun, France. He later graduated from Wichita State University with a BA degree in Sociology. After graduation, he spent a 30-year career as a Deputy Sheriff for Polk County, serving under 7 different sheriffs.

After retirement in 1999, Paul enjoyed helping a friend on his farm for the next 22 years. He also had a small handyman business as well.

He has spent many hours as a worker and servant at NewLife Church in Pleasant Hill. His unwavering love for the Lord was evident in his everyday life and guided him in all his endeavors. He and his wife helped many young people understand missions by leading several short-term mission trips to various countries. After his church, Paul’s next passion was Boy Scouts of America. He spent many summers as a youth and an adult at Camp Mitigwa near Boone, Iowa. Paul was a contributing force to numerous young men, including his own two sons, attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.

On June 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Fonda Philips at the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, his two sons, Jeffrey Womack (Lara Shelton), of Broomfield, Colorado; grandchildren, Natalie and Colin, and Dr. John Womack (Kristin Duerksen), of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Rebecca (Dan) , Emily, Nathan, Christopher and Benjamin.
