John W Conrad III, 74, of Conrad, IA passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. Interment will follow the service at the Conrad Cemetery. John was born November 3, 1951, to William and Loana (Dirks) Conrad in Marshalltown, IA. He grew up on the family farm and attended Beaman-Conrad High School, graduating with the class of 1969. He went on to Iowa State University to earn his bachelor’s degree in political science in 1973. John started his career at the capital in Des Moines as a Political Page before assisting Senator Roger Jepsen. He moved on to be an Executive Aid to Senator Charles Grassley for 18 years, a career he dearly loved. John most recently was a lobbyist for multiple communities in Iowa.
John was an avid reader. He was a lifelong learner, always reading to learn something new. He also enjoyed cheering on ISU, but most of all he loved to travel the world. He spent many years traveling to various places all over and had a special place in his heart for Disney World. John was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad. He also was a 32nd Degree Shriner, one degree below the top. John was a member of the Marshall Masonic Lodge #108 in Marshalltown. John adored his time spent with his family and will be missed by many.
Surviving John is his brother Dean (Carolyn) Conrad of Sumner, IA, niece Emily (Ted) Adams and their children; Isabella and Branden, nephew Wyatt (Jovanna) Conrad and their children; Gretta and Charles, and niece Cody (Joe) Simoens and their children; Parker and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Deborah Conrad.
