Walter Tintjer
Walter Tintjer, age 93 of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at The Willows.
Walter Dean Tintjer was born on November 28, 1932 at the family farm in Hubbard, he was a twin son of William and Frieda (Tiekenheinrich) Tintjer Sr. He attended country school near Hubbard, and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1950.
Walt worked on the family farm for a few years before enlisting in the United States Army in 1952 to 1954. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to farming.
On January 17, 1957, Walt was united in marriage with Kay Frazer. From this union, they were blessed with two children: Catherine and Michael. They made their home in Melbourne, where Walt farmed for a few years. In 1965, Walt and Kay moved to Marshalltown, where Walt began working for Lennox Industries. They were married for 38 wonderful years when Kay passed away in 1995.
Walt was united in marriage with Veleta Pearl (Rouse) Stubbs on May 5, 1996, and they made their home in Marshalltown. He was blessed to share 23 years with Veleta, and adding her sons to the family, Ken and Den. Veleta passed away in 2019.
Walt was a hardworking man all of his life. His most recent job was Southard Implement until his retirement at the age of 65. Walt managed to keep busy with side jobs, helping out countless local farmers with any task they may need, but especially during planting and harvest over the years. He also found time to have a garden at home that he maintained with pride. Walt enjoyed being outdoors, especially going fishing.
In death, Walt is reunited with his parents: William Sr. and Freida; his first wife, Kay; his second wife, Veleta; brother, William Tintjer Jr.; sister, Anna Tintjer; and twin brother, Wallace Tintjer. Left to cherish his memory are his special friend, Mary Horn, whom he has shared love and laughter with over the last seven years, and her family; his children: Cathy Curphy and Michael Tintjer; stepsons: Ken Stubbs and Den (Dana) Stubbs; grandchildren: Curtis Southard, Sarah Aten, Tyler Curphy, Sara (Terrence) Barthel, Mary (Andrew) Southern, and Mark (Danielle) Stubbs; and great grandchildren: Isaiah Southard, Tim and Elora Aten, Lindi and Kynslee Curphy, Eli, Jack, and Claire Stubbs, and Luca Southern.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by combined local VFW and American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
