Vicky was the daughter of Arnold (Pete) and Helen Menzel (Dwight) of Marshalltown, IA. She graduated from Lenihan Catholic High School in the Summer of 69′ and quickly found a perfect career allowing her to display her unrivaled gift of gab as a hairdresser where she made many lifelong friends. In 1970 she married and later had three children, Jeff, Stacy, and Matt with Dave Hilsabeck of Green Mountain, IA.

In 1995 she met her life love, William (Bill) Risk. They married in June of 2000 and together they began building a life filled with joy and new experiences. With Bill she found a passion for golf and played three times a week in a league in Arizona, where they relocated in 2004 after leaving Marshalltown. She and Bill loved to travel and had many adventures around the world.

Vicky loved being with her family and brought them together whenever she could on her annual trips back to Iowa. She was the family’s glue. She especially loved it when her Iowa family visited her in Arizona where she could have them together with her son and grandchildren who also lived there. She was already looking forward to her oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation and hosting family in June.

Vicky is survived by her husband Bill Risk of Tempe AZ, children Jeff Hilsabeck, his wife Michelle, their son Cason of West Des Moines, IA; Daughter Stacy Hilsabeck of Clive, IA; Matt Hilsabeck and his daughters Madison and Kayla of San Tan Valley, AZ, bonus daughter Heather Risk and her wife Risë Pavey of Camp Verde, AZ, her siblings, Bob Menzel, wife Jan, of Ottawa, KS, and Diana Ward of Conrad, IA along with their families.

She was preceded in death by Parents Arnold (Pete) and Helen Menzel, sister Rebecca, brother-in-law Jim Ward, stepdaughter Mary Beth Risk, and several aunts and uncles.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to everyone who attended Vicky’s Celebration of Life on June 15, 2026, at the Elk’s Lodge in Tempe, AZ. Thank you to those who helped coordinate the event and to everyone who shared stories, laughter and memories. Your love and friendship truly honored her vibrant spirit and have been a great comfort during this difficult time.

In lieu of a formal service, friends and family are welcome to gather for an informal celebration of life and visitation on Saturday, July 25, 2026, between 1pm -3pm at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Ave. W., Marshalltown, IA 50158.
