Helen L. Coulter, 102, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown following a luncheon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe directed to the Stavanger Friends Church or Iowa River Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Helen was born October 29, 1923, in Marshall County to Marion and Myrtle (Kjormoe) Olson. She graduated high school in 1941 and went on to attend Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). In 1944 she started working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired in 1980.
On June 14, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to James "Jim" Coulter at the Gilman Community Church. The two spent 73 years of married life in the Marshalltown area. After retirement they would spend their winters in Bonita Springs, FL. Both Helen and Jim loved to travel, having visited several countries and enjoyed cruises with their Florida friends.
Helen enjoyed golfing, doing crafts, Mah Jongg, and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Stavanger Friends Church, the Telephone Pioneer, YWCA, MMSC Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Helen was proud to join her three sisters-in-law in reaching the age of 100.
In March of 2020, Jim and Helen made their final home at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown, which they loved.
She is survived by two nephews, Randy and Grant Benson, great nieces and nephews along with numerous Coulter nieces and nephews. Helen joined her husband Jim, son in infancy, Gregory Alan, parents, and sister, Ardis Benson, in eternal rest.
