Lyle Francis Gaston was born June 20, 1952, to Francis and Goldie (Willy) Gaston in Marshalltown, IA. He grew up in the Beaman and Conrad area and attended Beaman-Conrad School. Following graduation, Lyle proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor.

On March 20, 1978, Lyle was united in marriage to Mary Ann Murra. Together, they welcomed two children, Sara and Matt, and built a family that remained an important part of Lyle's life throughout the years.

Lyle's career included serving as Head of Shipping at Green Products Company in Conrad and mainly worked as a security officer at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Beaman.

Outside of work, Lyle enjoyed the simple things in life and especially loved spending time outdoors. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, and he looked forward to fishing trips and the memories, stories, and laughter that came along with them. Whether the fish were biting or not, there was always something to enjoy about a day spent near the water.

Lyle also loved spending time on the golf course. A round of golf offered another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with friends, and share plenty of laughs along the way. It is especially fitting that family, and friends will gather at Oakwood Golf Course following his burial to continue sharing stories and celebrating a life well lived.

Lyle was also a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed cheering them on through the good seasons and the not-so-good ones. His love for the Hawkeyes was just one of the many things those who knew him will remember fondly.

More than anything, Lyle will be remembered for the life he shared with the people around him. He enjoyed good company, familiar faces, and time spent with family and friends. His life was filled with moments that may have seemed ordinary at the time: fishing trips, golfing, Hawkeye games, conversations, laughter, and gatherings; but those are the moments that become treasured memories for those left behind.

Lyle is survived by his son, Matt (Elizabeth) Gaston of Conrad; two grandchildren (Krisztian and EJ); his sister, Rita Stewart of Conrad; his special friend, Sue Blythe of Conrad; as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Goldie Gaston; his daughter, Sara; and his sister, Sheri.

Lyle's memory will live on in the stories shared, the fishing trips remembered, the golf balls played, the Hawkeyes games watched in his honor, and in the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
