Vote yes for LOSST on March 4

On March 4, 2025, there will be a special election on renewing the 1% Local Option Sales and Service Tax, also known as LOSST. The eligible voters in this special election are those voters that reside in the unincorporated areas of Marshall County. So, if you live in the country or in a small town that is not incorporated, such as Dillon, Dunbar, Lamoille, Van Cleve and others, you can vote in this special election. This tax is not a new tax. This extra 1% sales tax provision was first signed into law in 1985. This tax isn’t going away. This tax will still be collected. The state of Iowa will continue to collect this tax. The No vote in November didn’t eliminate the tax, it just eliminated Marshall County government from receiving the revenue. Marshall County Government has been using this extra 1% sales tax, of which, 50% of the revenue funds county roads and bridges for both repairs and improvements and the other 50% of the revenue is for property tax relief. Altogether, this extra 1% LOSST revenue brings in approximately $1.7 million to Marshall County. This provides roughly 11% of the revenue necessary to provide the services and improvements to county roads and bridges that the citizens of Marshall County are accustomed to. This is $1.7 million that the Marshall County government doesn’t have to raise through property taxes. As long as we vote “Yes” on March 4, Marshall County will continue to utilize the LOSST revenue stream to keep property taxes as low as we can and still maintain the services and quality roads and bridges for our Marshall County citizens.

Vote yes on March 4th. Keep the revenue from LOSST in Marshall County.
