With Blum out, I endorse Joe Mitchell

Rod Blum served Iowa well during his time in Congress, standing firm on conservative values and fighting for the people of our state. I always admired his leadership which is why my support in the 2nd Congressional District Republican Primary was split between Rod Blum and my good friend and former colleague, Joe Mitchell.

Now that Rod has stepped aside, the choice in the upcoming primary is clear: Joe Mitchell is the right candidate for this District. Joe Mitchell represents the next generation of conservative leadership – young and energetic, but also deeply motivated and principled.

I spoke with Joe just recently about the campaign before formally giving my endorsement. He stands strong on conservative and America-first policies that will keep our country strong under President Trump. He is the only candidate in this race that we can trust on important issues like opposing radical gender identity and supporting America-first policies.

I also know Joe’s opponent Shannon Lundgren. She serves in the Iowa Legislature with me and is a very nice person. I’ve chosen to support Joe over Shannon because on some of the most important issues to conservatives, Shannon has backed away when she should lean in. On the issue of gender identity, we fought for years to remove those ridiculous so-called “civil rights” protections that allowed radical left-wing ideology to dominate our state government, classrooms, and way of life.

When the Iowa House brought legislation to the Floor to strike gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Code, an issue where Iowa has led the nation, Shannon chose instead to oppose this Conservative piece of legislation by co-sponsoring an amendment that would have gutted the bill. She chose to follow the Left’s rhetoric instead of science and plain old common-sense. Thankfully that amendment failed.

At a time when politicians in Washington are afraid to do the bold things to help President Trump and fight back against the Left, we need leaders who are strong, not timid. I know Joe Mitchell won’t let us down. Joe has been in the fight for years. As a genZ conservative, he’s on the frontlines in defining the future of our movement for generations to come. He can give the Republican Party and the entire country a strong future.

I encourage fellow conservatives across the district to meet Joe for themselves, get to know him and where he stands. I know you will come to the same conclusion I have and support him on June 2.
