A commitment to thoughtful leadership
My name is Christian Goodman, and I am announcing my intention to run to fill the vacant county supervisor position my late father, Kevin Goodman, held until Jan. 7, 2026.
Just a few months ago, I did not expect to be in this position. Public policy and debate always interested me, but I was not actively pursuing a role in local government. That changed after my father’s passing.
I felt called to step forward — not only to continue the work he had begun, but to serve the community that shaped who I am. I’ve lived here my entire life, and I’m proud to call Marshall County home. This community has given so much to me and my family, and that sense of responsibility is what led me here.
My background is in agriculture, trucking, and aviation support. Each of those experiences has shaped how I approach responsibility and decision-making. Agriculture teaches accountability — you solve problems, face challenges, and keep moving forward. Trucking, as an owner-operator, reinforced that mindset in a highly regulated environment where the responsibility ultimately falls on you. My experience managing helicopter ground crews taught me how to communicate clearly, lead effectively, and make decisions under pressure.
Since being sworn in as a county supervisor, I have focused on learning. I have met one-on-one with department heads to better understand how our county operates, where challenges exist, and how I can best support their work. I have studied our budgets, attended conferences such as the Iowa State Association of Counties, and connected with leaders across the state to gain perspective.
I also serve as a member of the Haverhill Fire Department, which gives me a direct, on-the-ground understanding of emergency response in our community.
One of the most important issues facing our county is emergency medical services. This is not a partisan issue — it is a human one. When someone calls 911, they expect help to arrive. I am committed to working collaboratively across jurisdictions to ensure we develop a sustainable and reliable EMS system for all residents.
I am also mindful of major issues like wind and solar energy development and data center ordinances. These projects can provide meaningful economic opportunity for our county, and I support that potential. At the same time, they require thoughtful consideration, balance, and a long-term perspective to ensure they are done right.
I do not approach this role with the assumption that I have all the answers. I gather information, ask questions, and listen. I believe good decisions come from understanding the full picture and taking the time to get it right.
I believe strongly in transparency as a principle. Transparency builds trust, strengthens accountability, and encourages open dialogue. Without it, confidence in local government cannot exist.
I also believe that expedience is not a substitute for due diligence. This role requires careful consideration, not rushed decisions, and a willingness to do the work necessary to serve the public effectively.
I am running as a fiscally conservative Republican because I believe local government should focus on its core responsibilities, manage resources responsibly, and avoid unnecessary spending. At the same time, many of the challenges we face are not partisan–they are practical, and they require thoughtful, collaborative solutions. I am committed to working with others, regardless of political affiliation, to do what is best for the county.
I view this role as one of service. My responsibility is to work alongside department heads, stay connected to the public, and make decisions that reflect the best interests of the county as a whole.
I welcome input, expect to be held accountable, and remain committed to serving with integrity, humility, and purpose. It is an honor to serve Marshall County, and I look forward to continuing to earn your trust through service, open dialogue, and thoughtful leadership.
