IVCCD reflects on growth, student success and a strong future
As the academic year ends, the Iowa Valley Community College District is celebrating a year marked by meaningful progress in enrollment growth, student retention, and expanded opportunities for learners across the District.
Enrollment on the rise
One of the most notable achievements this year has been an increase in student enrollment across the District. IVCCD saw a 9.2% increase in credit hour enrollment over fall 2024. Through strategic outreach, expansion of programs, strengthened partnerships with K-12 schools, and developed dual credit opportunities, IVCCD has welcomed a growing number of students seeking affordable, high-quality education close to home. Focused recruitment efforts and community engagement have played a key role in connecting more students to academic and career pathways.
A strong commitment to retention and student success
While bringing students to campus is important, keeping them engaged and helping them succeed remains the District’s top priority. This year, IVCCD enhanced its retention strategies by investing in strong academic advising, early alert systems, and student support services. IVCCD is recognized as having retention rates in the top 10% of all community colleges in Iowa. Faculty and staff have worked collaboratively to ensure students feel connected, supported, and equipped to reach their academic goals. The District continues to emphasize a holistic approach, recognizing that student success extends beyond the classroom.
Strengthening workforce and
community connections
IVCCD has also deepened its partnerships with local industries and community organizations to align programs with workforce needs. Career and technical education programs remain a cornerstone of the District’s mission, providing students with hands-on training and direct pathways to employment. These partnerships ensure graduates are prepared to meet the demands of a changing workforce while supporting regional economic growth.
Future: Innovation and opportunity
As IVCCD looks toward the future, the focus remains on continued growth, innovation, and accessibility. Plans are underway to expand academic offerings, increase student success resources, and strengthen student engagement and athletics. The District is also committed to fostering inclusive excellence, ensuring all students can succeed and accomplish their academic goals.
Expanding online options for
working students
Recognizing the needs of today’s learners, IVCCD has continued to expand its online and flexible course offerings. These options provide working students, parents, and those balancing multiple responsibilities with the ability to pursue their education on their own schedules. By increasing access to high-quality online programs and hybrid learning opportunities, the District is removing barriers and meeting students where they are, whether in the classroom, at home, or on the job.
This commitment to flexibility not only supports enrollment growth but also strengthens retention, as students are better able to persist when education fits into their lives.
The successes of this past year reflect the dedication of faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Together, we have built a strong foundation that will continue to empower students, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for all in the years ahead.
