Local news still matters

Yesterday, April 9, was the first national Local News Day, but here at the Times-Republican, every day is Local News Day. Our small but mighty team of journalists is present in Marshalltown and Marshall County every day doing what we do best — reporting on what’s happening in our communities, whether it’s our city and county governments, our schools or just a nice human interest feature on people who are making a difference.

At the T-R, we still strive to be the most trusted source and the one our thousands of readers — and, at last count, over 22,000 Facebook followers — turn to when they want to find out what’s really going on in the communities we serve, and every day, we’re reporting stories that won’t be found anywhere else.

For proof, look no further than the pages of this newspaper six days a week. They are full of deeply reported hard news stories, press releases on upcoming events, local editorials and columns from a wide range of community leaders and coverage of our area high school and community college sports teams.

That work isn’t easy, and it isn’t free. It takes a dedicated staff to produce a daily newspaper, and we believe our team is as dedicated as they come. So, if you believe that local news still has a place in the modern media ecosystem, we encourage you to subscribe or buy a copy at the nearest newsstand and advertise your business, cause or event in these pages or on our website, email newsletter and social media pages.

We’re here for the long haul, and we hope you, our readers and advertisers, are too. Local news still matters, and the T-R is here to provide it.

Starting at $4.38/week.
