Remembering Rocky

The Remembering Rocky Times-Republican story on page A3 in Thursday’s paper brings back another interesting note to me in reference to Rocky Lavalle’s Marshalltown connection with Zeno’s Pizza.

As T-R sports editor back in the 1965-66 season, I traveled to out-of-town games for the Bobcats with KFJB radio guys, the late Dale Smith and Herb Anderson. Going to Webster City for the Bobcat-Webster City Lynx basketball game, we stopped for lunch at Rockys Pizza in that city, since I knew of the place from earlier days as a newsman there.

Hearing that we were Marshalltown folks, Rocky’s ears perked up and he commented something like, “I once in the 1950s was a silent partner with the Klucks there.”

As the story indicates Rocky’s good humor, he emphasized loudly with a grin, silent partner, hinting he had not been heavily involved in management.
