Concerns over sidewalk/bike path project

I write with concerns for the sidewalk/bike path project planned for 12th Avenue. The concerns are for the safety and the number of residents that would utilize a sidewalk/path on the east side of 12th Avenue.

It seems that nearly 100 percent of Marshalltown residents within this Anson to Olive Streets area live on the west side of 12th Avenue. Thus, the residents most likely to use this project will be on the wrong side of the street. These residents would need to cross 12th Avenue to use the sidewalk/path. The safety in crossing a street with heavy vehicle traffic is of great concern. This safety concern would not exist with the sidewalk/path on the west side of 12th Avenue.

In addition, there is already a sidewalk on 12th Avenue north of Anson Street. But, it is on the west side of the street.

This project’s use and safety would be enhanced by building it on the west side of 12th Avenue.

Reconsider. Say no for the planned sidewalk/bike path to be on the east side of 12th Avenue.
