How do we become a Kingdom of Priests?

Throughout the Bible, God has been on a never-ending quest to keep His kingdom revealed to his people. Scripturally, he uses the picture of wandering sheep as an analogy of the human spirit. Sheep, as well as humans, always need a leader/shepherd to keep us safe and secure. Without a shepherd, we are scattered and lost. Wandering is the sheep’s first love, also we humans. Scripture says God never gives up on seeking and restoring his people. God searched until He found the Jews and brought them back to the sheepfold.

So what in the world has God been doing since our grandparents lost Eden? Well, he promised us the Messiah in Genesis chapter three, he found a righteous man in Abraham and promised him to be the progenitor of a nation of people, he made a covenant with the Jewish folks, He brought correction when needed, he brought them out of slavery and in due time, brought his son to Earth as the Messiah.

Isn’t it interesting that God says all the Earth is his? (Ex.19:5). We humans tend to think the world belongs to us. Since the Earth is God’s, he led his people out of slavery and back to his kingdom. He can do this because he created the world. Unfortunately, the Jews didn’t recognize their Messiah ’cause in their mind, they wanted a savior that would conquer the rest of the world and bring Israel back to national prominence — just like King David of the Old Testament. Since the Jews rejected Christ; we Gentiles were given the opportunity to accept Jesus and have salvation. God’s expectation of the Jews, becoming a “Nation of Priests,” didn’t happen, but his promise to the Gentiles fell on ears that heard, and his gift of eternal life was extended to us. By our faith, we have the right to be the new “Kingdom of priests.” We believed God and gave him our promise. God has called us out of a world of sin and given us a promise that we will be a special people, folks who spread God’s truth to the world. We remember the Jews failure; within one or two generations, their belief fell by the wayside. Sad to say, the Christian response is also failing as “a Kingdom of Priests.” All God ever wants is for us to speak to people about his goodness and love.
