Democrats hypocritical on border

Our southern border has been in the news often. It can be helpful to look back a few years to see what some elected officials have said. Recently, I read three quotes that got my attention. In 2005, Senator Barack Obama said, “We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.” In 2009, Senator Chuck Schumer said, “Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple…. People who enter the United States without permission are illegal aliens, and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who enter the U.S. legally.” And perhaps the most interesting is the quote by Senator Joe Biden in 2006 when he said, “Let me tell you something, folks, people are driving across that border with tons, tons–hear me, tons–of everything from byproducts from methamphetamine to cocaine to heroin, and it’s all coming up through corrupt Mexico.” Now, more than a decade later, we hear some of these politicians talk about a border wall being immoral, ineffective or even racist. Just 15 years ago, legislation was passed called the Secure Fence Act in 2006. That directed the Department of Homeland Security to take appropriate actions to achieve control to prevent unlawful entry into the US. Please read the three quotes listed above again. Are you surprised that all three of these politicians voted yes for the Secure Fence Act? Perhaps it’s time for more of us to contact our elected officials to ask them to enforce our existing immigration laws. A country without borders really isn’t a country.
