Distracted driving a real danger

Recently, while driving from Marshalltown to Nevada and back on highway 30, I observed at least 5 different drivers pass me with their phones in their hand on the steering wheel. Almost daily you can see the same distracted driving on city streets and highways. I will say that I see a few individuals pulled off to the side using their phones but the number of people on the phone while driving is out of control.

When will the state and federal politicians pass laws with serious penalties for this growing safety issue? How many accidents with injuries and deaths does it take before some real action is taken?

I carry my phone with me almost everywhere but while driving I turn it off or I am disciplined enough to ignore it until I am safely off the road.

Is using your phone while driving worth injuring or killing someone else?
