Sarah Tupper walks the walk

I recently heard Sarah Tupper for Marshall County Attorney speak at Wayward Social.

Sarah has been an advocate against violent crimes and has prosecuted countless offenders. Sarah walks the walk and talks the talk.

In May of 2013 Sarah Tupper was the prosecuting attorney in a domestic violence case.

It was my case.

My arm had been broken, my eardrums ruptured, my face, my arms, my legs were bruised & swollen, and my neck was bruised due to being choked.

My daughter who was a toddler at the time was terrified of me. She didn’t recognize me.

Sarah and her team were in consent contact with me throughout the entire process of prosecution.

I remember a few times wanting the case to be dropped, I wanted it over. It was the victim mentality. Sarah was firm that was not going to happen. She was fighting for justice for me, my children and other potential victims.

The state (Sarah) fought hard.

The defendant never acknowledges the seriousness of this assault against me. Till the end he held firm that I provoked his every blow, every kick was brought on by something I said or did.

The defendant was found guilty of willful injury causing bodily harm and Domestic abuse assault by strangulation.

The first charge carried a five-year prison sentence, the second a two-year prison sentence to be served concurrent.

On July 30, 2014, through the Iowa Court of Appeals the defendant appealed his sentences stating that the district court abused its discretion in imposing concurrent prison terms rather than placing him on probation. The defendant used his right of allocation.

In the end, the sentences were upheld and the defendant went to prison.

Assistant Marshall County Attorney Sarah Tupper fought for justice for me.

This topic is only one of many Sarah Tupper stands firm in. The drug court is another.
