I experienced grief at the loss of my firstborn, but the horror families experienced losing their precious, innocent children to mass shootings in a school setting is unfathomable. This never should have happened — again — and again. What a massive stain on this country!

So why are the governor and Iowa Republicans working to add a Constitutional amendment to repress gun reform? Iowa stands at number 33 for having the weakest gun laws in the country! No law requiring background checks on unlicensed gun sales! No laws to keep guns away from domestic abusers! Iowa is a Stand Your Ground state! Iowa is an open carry state!

Since 2013, there have been 142 school shootings and not one meaningful gun reform from the States — nor holding politicians without a moral compass accountable, who answer only to the gun industry and not We the People. It is time Iowans reclaim our state for the safety of our children and citizens.

And it is time for Iowans to put aside Iowa Nice and show our Iowa indignation to this proposal by removing the present occupants at our statehouse and vote ‘No’ on Nov. 8 to squash this amendment.
