Libraries shouldn’t be politicized

Regarding the article, Book ban attempts hit record high in 2022, published March 24, 2023 page A6 authored by The Associated Press.

The piece references The American Library Associations data report on attempted book bans and restrictions at school and public libraries. The ALA conveniently ignores recording data from libraries that censor and ban material from their own patrons. The AP is skilled at promoting the charade.

The ALA agenda is to assist libraries with their agendas. Since when do public libraries require agendas? Andrew Carnegie and the late library director Mary Quam would be outraged at the politicization of many libraries including the Marshalltown Public Library.

Knowing what the outcome would be, a few weeks ago, I followed directions and reported censoring and banning of popular, timely, and pertinent material currently happening at the Marshalltown Iowa Public Library to the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom. There has been no response.
