Trump should face consequences

A few weeks ago there was a letter to the editor about Donald Trump being a con man amongst other things. I have never written a letter to the editor but I have such strong feelings about Mr. Trump. And yes, I was one that was conned into voting for him, but his actions after taking over the presidency have me really second-guessing myself.

I am an Army veteran and to think that an ex-president would take the actions he did on Jan. 6. It was an act of treason toward the United States of America, and he should have been arrested and charged immediately following the riot. The people involved in the riot have had to face criminal charges, so why not Trump? Are the people on the hill afraid of this man?

The cowards at the top will probably just slap him on the wrist because no one in the Republican Party wants to be the one to say ‘Hey, this guy is guilty of criminal acts and needs to face the music. I cannot believe that his is the frontrunner for his party’s nomination. This is insane.

I do not hate the Republicans, and I am not a full-fledged Democrat. I am a proud independent, so I can vote for the person and not a party line. Having faith in either party is a thing of the past.
