Get rid of speed cameras or give money to charity
There is a need to eliminate the supplier’s 30 percent revenue for speed cameras. The enticement for profit for the company is too high. Can the supervisors state that ALL revenue from the cameras, including the amount to the 3rd party supplier go to charity, such as the United Way? The third party gets nothing and the city gets nothing. The focus is on safety not revenue. There might be an assumption that the speed cameras will increase safety, that is a good thing. I assume there will be metrics at a future meeting showing the 400 tickets in five days has increased safety, right? We should not allow an opportunity to fill the pockets of the city or the third party goes unnoticed. Either get rid of the cameras or ALL proceeds go to charity, including the amount to the third party! There is too much of an opportunity for a money grab.
