Recently, a high school student was bitten by a German Shepherd dog while running on the trail west of the Little League Complex. The one fact that I know of is that the dog was on a leash but obviously not totally controlled by the owner. The dog owner did ask if the student was OK and he replied, "I think so" and continued with his run.
Upon arriving home, it was discovered that he needed to seek medical treatment. Stitches were required for the wound and shots to prevent rabies as they could not find the dog owner. The dog owner should have had better control of their dog and should have shared contact info with the student along with assuring that he was indeed not injured. As a dog owner myself, I know that I am responsible for my dog's actions in a public place.
Another etiquette issue is bicycles not announcing their intentions before passing walkers from behind. Please remember that this can be a safety issue while passing someone along the trail.
