Concerned about potential garbage changes
Tuesday morning as I read the online T-R, it was an irritating start to my day. The first topic was the issue of trash pickup in our city. It’s quite obvious that lots of discussion around this topic has been ongoing without much concern for the citizens.
The entire report was centered on the fact that you’re willing to change the whole organized trash pickup in our town to accommodate ONE hauler who has made a substantial investment into their business without consulting the city, the other haulers, considering the havoc & added expense it will cause the citizens, and going against a long standing city ordinance. You’re taking valuable time away from the day to day business of the law abiding haulers to figure out how to accommodate the offender. Doesn’t seem right to me!
Why is it that the offender is winning? You are working on trying to fix his selfishness in purchasing a large piece of equipment which requires that every one of his customers to break the law by conforming to his needs rather than obeying the ordinances already in place in our community — which, by the way, has been working for YEARS!
Mayor Greer mentioned during Monday’s meetings that a similar issue was considered during his years as a councilperson…also when my husband was a councilperson and both times it was a very heated issue and was put to bed without any changes. I recall one evening when Tom got a call from a prominent businessman in town concerning this issue (circa 1990’s) and before Tom could tell this person he was NOT in favor of a change he was called a SOB NAZI.
I have had a one-on-one conversation with Councilmen Jeff Schneider and Gary Thompson in the last week concerning this issue and one of my main concerns is the look of our city if this is enacted. And as I read the article in today’s paper there was absolutely NO mention of the fact that there are many citizens of our community that do not want this changed. It was purely, how can we make this work for this hauler and expect the others to comply?
