Garbage concerns, pt. 2
Why do we take the time to create ordinances if our city leaders won’t enforce them? I am very disappointed in all of you! You tell us we need to focus on city beautification! So much for that The scattered trash cans around town lining our deplorable, sinking patched pothole, cracked streets will be lovely!
Should you toss out the current ordinance and allow this to happen, you know that our trash collection rates will go up and any additional ideas you may have about another type of option tax, it’s dead before you even consider talking about it.
I’ve lived in Marshalltown for over 50 years, and anytime there is a controversial issue, our city leaders always seem to side with the minority. If you pursue this change, get ready for the phone calls…day and night!
Finally, why is it when a constituent contacts a councilperson, from my experience, a response is rare? Go back and look at the promises you made to us when you wanted our vote…I know being a councilperson takes a lot of your time and can be a thankless job…and living with one who gave 10 years to our city, I know that sometimes city business came first! If you really want to make a difference, TALK to your citizens, answer our questions…ignoring us just creates more agitation. You’re never going to make everyone happy, but at least be transparent and responsive to those who ask the questions.
