We, in the 3rd Ward of Marshalltown, are lucky to be choosing between two techy types, because they are useful people on any committee, board or project. While these two candidates would probably approach city problems similarly, their broader perspectives are very different. Greg Nichols is older and conservative. Chris Bennett is younger and more tolerant. I think the future is bright, and I am supporting the thoughtful, younger candidate.

As for the franchise fee, I am going to vote for it. I drive an all electric car, so I don’t pay road taxes at the gas pump like most people do. So, it’s only fair that I contribute somehow to good streets. But if you all want to vote against it, that will save me some money!
