Time for a new library director
The October statement of concern was submitted timely and because I was certain the director would not forward it to the full board or add it to the agenda, I sent a copy of it, and others, to each member.
The Marshall County public is spending $1,000,000 (one million dollars) every year to support the MPL, yet public representation is virtually zero. You are wrong if you believe that the staff and board represent you. Instead, cues and instruction from nonprofits, (ILA and ALA), public funded State administrative bureaucracy (State Library of Iowa) and Pinocchios in the fact check for profit industry are all that matter. Notice that none of the input is from local people.
The MPL fails to live up to its own mission statement — “MISSION: Marshalltown Public Library exists to provide residents of Marshalltown and Marshall County with materials and services that meet their needs for recreation, information, education, and cultural awareness. ”
It’s time for a new director.
