The Pentagon is wasting our money

I am surprised that I have not seen a single person write an editorial point of view concerning the article printed in the TR, on Nov, 30, “THE PENTAGON JUST CAN’T PASS AN AUDIT. Congratulations to our T-R staff for printing this and us all aware as to how terribly corrupt our Pentagon is in spending our tax money.

In the article that the TR wrote, “In its most recent audit, the Pentagon was able to account for just half of its $3.8 trillion in assets (including equipment, facilities, etc). That means $1.9 trillion is unaccounted for — more than the entire budget ‘Congress agreed to for the current fiscal year.”‘

We should not let the Pentagon, nor our Congress get by with this kind of unethical behavior. We all need to get involved in changing our culture of war mentality, Every day twenty veterans commit suicide and over a year’s time that is 7, 300 veterans who have died by suicide. There is just too much money that military contractors are making off of these wars. And I am one who does not want to see our tax money being spent this way.

What percent of our military budget goes to contractors? More than half of the annual Defense budget is now spent on military contractors and payments to contractors have risen more than 164% since 2001 from $140 billion in 2001 to about $370 billion in 2019.

So, is God concerned about our war mentality? When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” As Christians and followers of Jesus, we need to be heaven bound and we need to be building God’s Kingdom on this planet earth.

When it comes down to changing our war mentality, we simply lack courage. In Psalm 31:24 (RSV) we read, “Be strong and let your heart take courage.”

Yes, you and I need courage and we all need to stop our never ending wars. The Pentagon does not need to be in control of our foreign policy. The Pentagon is promoting and making military contractors millionaires. God help us to bring about some changes in our country right now. At this Christmas time of the year, let us think about peace, love and joy and giving to others.
