MACC (Fisher) funding rejection

Very many of us are disappointed that the City Council did not pass the resolution to provide funding for the public use of the MACC (Fisher Center). Since the last city election, the naysayers have taken over and a lot of us no longer have representation. We thank our fine Mayor Greer for his hard work and the optimistic councilors, now in the minority, who have ideas for progress in our city besides only streets and junk removal. The MACC (Fisher) is familiar to all with its pond and statue often used as an icon to represent Marshalltown. We can all recall attending a meeting or event there. It should be supported.

We appreciate the forward thinking members of our city council and extend appreciation to those dedicated current and past councilors.

Those of us who care about this issue have to make our voices heard. Maybe with community encouragement this issue can be resubmitted. The idea of nonprofits raising building funds is not viable. Nonprofits are churches, social clubs, service organizations like Meals on Wheels. Their goals are not fundraising. Perhaps both sides can make some concessions and funding to preserve MACC can be brought up again.
