Speeding problem must be addressed

As responsible taxpayers and citizens, we can’t understand why vehicles are allowed to drive 20,25,30 mph and more over the speed limits.

Friday vehicles were going by my house at 45 and 50 mph. We are a freeway for commuters at Emerson, Lennox and JBS. I don’t walk my dog from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

We were told there would be portable cameras because there is a shortage of police and driving down a street once a day won’t help. Several months ago a vehicle speeding down my street hit the parking sign, threw it into my yard, drove down the terrace and back onto the street. A neighbor said they were flying.

Speeding studies say people will speed as long as they don’t think they will be caught. My councilman told me to contact Tupper. When I email him he responds with I’m accusing him of not doing his job or I’m a complainer. My neighbors have asked for help for 30 years. We are a different demographic than what the city wants to attract and feel we are ignored in our blue collar neighborhood. Eastenders.

All we hear about is the city’s kumbaya. How about the basics first? Start with the speeding on every street in town. Exiting driveways on May St. is scary.

We aren’t the preferred demographic, but WE DO COUNT. It appears to be hard to retain or hire police officers, attract new home buyers and retain students. Flowers and murals aren’t the answer. How about stopping the out of control speeding, repairing the streets and eradicating the stench from JBS.

It has been terrible lately. After the junk and illegal parking, etc. is cleared up then add the arts. It is disheartening to be ignored by the city that always wants more money. Maybe we could have a lawn party so we could all drink the kool aid and chant the buzzwords. You are reaping what you have sown, but we pay the price.
