The power of the penny
Almost 25 years ago, I was on the City Council. The idea came to us to have a Local Option Sales Tax. It seemed like a good idea, lowering property taxes and saving some money for the council’s use. At that time, I thought it was a good idea and I still do. But, I didn’t realize just how much Marshalltown would benefit!
Projects large and small, helping balance our budget plus lowering property taxes has benefited everyone in town.People coming into town spending money also help us pay for the services they use and we depend on.
