I wholeheartedly support Melisa Fonseca in her bid for City Council. I was so encouraged when I heard Melisa was planning on running, as Melisa and her family are some of the most civic-minded people I know. This means not just focusing on or talking about the challenges we face, but being willing to put in the work toward making a difference in a positive way.

And while it is not the only factor, representation matters. Melisa has excellent skills, communication style, a good knowledge base and great aptitude for learning — but she also has a diverse perspective: as a woman, a Latina, and a young professional. In nature, diversity in an ecosystem contributes to strength and sustainability. The same is true for communities.

If you live in the fourth ward, I hope you will vote for Melisa Fonseca for City Council.
