A successful sesquicentennial celebration

We are still catching our breath from our successful sesquicentennial celebration of the historic Binford House. The event was attended by many people who heard about early history of people of Marshalltown and Marshall County by touring the Binford House, Sower-Glick Home and Taylor #4 School, feasting on Marshall County Cattlemen grilled burgers, sno cones and cotton candy while listening to a melting pot of music with Bill Wilson’s Irish Music, the Sweet Adelines, MHS Band Jazz Band and a Latin Band. Trudy Wilson and Pete Grady re-enacted Thaddeus and Angelica Binford to listen about the family and lives. The young children eagerly participated in the bubble gum blowing, 3-legged race, egg on a spoon race and sack race to win a “gold medallion.” The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department won “bragging rights” at the Tug of War with the Marshalltown Police Department. An enjoyable time was had by all! Thaddeus and Angelica Binford and their families would have been pleased with this event.

Thank you to the Times-Republican Newspaper with their promotion publicity and pictures for this event in June and July. Jake Ryder, Sara Jordan-Heintz and others wrote good stories prior to this event July 7 and afterwards. We were pleased with the attendance and participation in the games, touring the historic buildings to learn about Marshall County early history, listening to the music, enjoying the Marshall County Cattlemen’s grilled beef burgers and the sno cones and cotton candy.

Starting at $4.38/week.
