Feenstra’s gaslighting
In the Marshalltown Times Republican Editorial Forum, Rep. Randy Feenstra has a habit of writing editorials to make it sound like he’s busy doing his job and not just collecting PAC money from Bruce Rastetter. The July 22 issue of the T-R was no exception. Instead of writing legislation about our cancer rates or our dirty rivers and lakes he’s gaslighting about voter fraud. He wants to “Safeguard American Voter . . .” What makes this silly is that all these laws are already in place and enforced.
Regarding our last presidential election:
“The November 3rd election was the most secure in American history . . . . There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised . . . While we know there are many unfounded claims and opportunities for misinformation about the process of our elections . . . we have the utmost confidence in the security and integrity of our elections, and you should too.” – Joint Statement by CISA, the Election Infrastructure Government Coordinating Council (GCC), and the Election Infrastructure Sector Coordinating Council (SCC), Nov. 12, 2020.
Regarding undocumented citizens, Representative Feenstra should be aware there is already a law in place. “Non-citizens, including permanent legal residents, cannot vote in federal, state, and most local elections.” Noncitizens voting is very rare. In reality, noncitizen crime is rare. People trying to gain citizenship must obey all the laws or be extradited.
You may not know the person running against Rep. Feenstra because he doesn’t take PAC money. His name is Ryan Melton. Ryan believes tax breaks should not only benefit big business and the top 1% of wealthy Americans. By making everybody pay their fair share, we can fix our broken systems, protect our democracy, and lift up the working- and middle-class Americans who have been carrying this country on their backs. TURNOUT TURNOUT TURNOUT.
