Response to 13th Street opinion piece
I just wanted to weigh in on the LGBTQ+ celebration on 13th Street earlier this summer. We were unable to attend as we were out of town, but I hope to attend next year to support everyone who lives in our community.
There was an opinion piece written asking, “Does the community really want to be known for an annual LGBTQ+ event?”
My answer to that is a resounding YES!!! I want to support everyone who lives in my community. A good community is a cohesive, safe, confident, prosperous and happy place to live for all its citizens. Everyone should be allowed to live their authentic lives, enjoy community events, hang out with family and friends, without the worry of becoming a target of hate.
I support any and all events that lift up marginalized communities.
We all need to spread more love and acceptance, not division and exclusion. And by the way, everyone pays taxes including the LGBTQ+ community.
