Give our teachers the tools they need

I own an embarrassment of tools. Kim and I have done quite a bit of remodeling over the years (it’s my excuse to buy ANOTHER tool).

A couple of months back, I had the opportunity to tour Miller Middle School, and was shocked at the condition of the building. Our daughter (Lexi) had attended Miller just 4 years ago. As we went to her student/teacher conferences, we never really looked at the building, who does? The tour showed major water problems, mold, cut up classrooms, very small classrooms, electrical problems and much more. The once stately auditorium had seen better days and the smell of the decay was unmistakable.

Just like you doing a project or remodel, you need the right tools to get the job done right. So do our teachers.

We have an amazing staff and teachers at Miller Middle School. But how can we expect them to give a world class education to Marshalltown teens if they don’t have the proper tools or classrooms to teach in? Recruited future teachers have turned down a job at Miller due to the building conditions! Marshalltown’s education suffers and in turn, Marshalltown suffers.

With construction costs going up 5-7% per year, delaying the project for even one year could drive up the price of renovation by $5 to $7 million. It’s not going to get any cheaper!

Join us in getting our teachers and staff the tools they need to succeed.

Please vote “YES” on the Miller Middle School bond issue. It will be located on the back of your ballot.
