Joel Oliva, better for Marshall County
Recently it was reported that Marshall County is being sued by Perfection Property Restoration for their work on the Courthouse from the tornado in 2018. In researching the project I found that, at the August 3, 2021 Marshall County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board discussed selecting a new contractor. You can find the video of this meeting on the Marshall County YouTube page at the 38:17 minute mark. It shocked me to hear Auditor/Recorder Nan Benson say that she felt as if “we were raped and pillaged” by the general contractor for overcharging fees. Inappropriate and unacceptable.
In addition to the unprofessional comment, how was it swept under the rug that the county was overcharged in fees for three years? How can the auditor in charge of managing the finances with the courthouse project be unaware that the taxpayers were being overcharged by 70% for three years? Looking back at my property tax statements during that same period, the county portion of our property taxes went up 16%. Unaware and unprepared government leaders directly raise your taxes, and it happened under Nan Benson’s watch.
It’s time for a change; Joel Oliva for Auditor/Recorder. Oliva is experienced in managing systems and processes. He is educated and an expert in cyber security and accounting. Oliva’s experience prepares him to find cost saving measures and long range planning to protect our pocketbooks. Joel knows to listen to professionals on large scale projects and work with a team to maximize your tax dollars with efficiency. Joel Oliva is a professional that we need working for us in the Courthouse.
Vote Joel Oliva for Marshall County Auditor/Recorder.
