Vote Sue Cahill on Nov. 5
Politics in 2024 are messy. At best, the ads we see are disingenuous. At worst, they push false information. Decision-making is easier when candidates have a record we can objectively evaluate. Sue Cahill has a record we can vote on and count on.
We have known Sue for 10 years now. We have watched as Sue has worked for a better Marshalltown. First as a public educator, and then as a city councilor, Sue has brought common sense approaches to building community success. Sue supports public safety and is pro-law enforcement. As a city councilor, Sue supported funding the Marshalltown Police and Community Team (MPACT). As a result of this innovative program, social service professionals now assist law enforcement in Marshalltown in responding to social and crisis service needs.
Sue has supported efforts like MPACT because they enhance public safety and provide law enforcement with the resources necessary to help with cases relating to mental health, addiction, and homelessness. As city councilor, Sue supported countless other public safety needs, including a new police-fire building in Marshalltown. And she raised $12,000 in gift cards to help impacted residents after the 2018 tornado.
Sue has continued this good work in the Iowa Legislature. It is difficult to have a voice as a member of the minority party when the majority party is unwilling to accept minority party input. Nonetheless, Sue has persisted. In 2024, she voted to support two bills that increased access to disaster relief funding. One bill (HF2167) increased the limits on grant funding assistance, while another bill (HF2308) increased the scope of situations that qualify for funding.
Sue has a record of supporting public education. Sue wants to keep public tax dollars in public schools — benefiting everyone. Sue supports the working class and works to protect their rights in the workplace. Sue does not want state government to be ever-present in your doctor’s office or your living room as you make decisions about reproductive freedoms. Sue has worked her entire life for the average man and woman that calls Marshalltown home.
Sue’s opponent has no record or experience to rely upon; therefore, we have no window into his values and plans. But we do know he’s backed by groups and politicians who support private education vouchers and extreme bans on abortion, IVF, and birth control.
Vote Sue Cahill on November 5.
