Money spent in a campaign for public office is voluntarily donated to the candidate. That money is put into a separate account and is then spent on anything the campaign needs, such as signage, advertising, mailings, etc. The state requires periodic reports to be filed giving the amount, date, name and address for each donor. The same is true for each expenditure; the amount, name, date, and address are submitted.

If it seems as though Lisa Lawler’s campaign has spent a lot of money, it is because she has had a lot of people who supported and believed in her and voluntarily donated. There is nothing shady about her spending that money for her campaign. If you think there is something nefarious going on, you are unaware of how campaigns work.
