Meeting the public

Dec. 26 was a special day. Having many errands to do, we started by eating breakfast at Muddy Waters. After ordering, we began to people watch. Just inside the main-entrance door, there was a table of 20+ people, probably a family get-together. Shortly, a ten year old boy strolled in and “Bellied up to the bar.” A waitress standing there told him she had already put his order in. J.P. began talking to him. The boy’s name was Remington Rhodes, brother of Bentley Rhodes who lives in Grundy Center. His grandmother works at the T. R. He helps her and she gives him some cash to have breakfast. As he waited he was playing with his phone, probably a gift from Christmas. He was showing J.P. an old car that a friend of his father gave to him. It appeared to be a 39-41 Chevy without a motor. A second picture revealed a sporty motor he received to put in it. I offered some advice and did not wait for him to say yes or no. I indicated that perhaps he might want to ask someone how much alteration would have to happen to get it into the car. A few weeks ago Our church gave each member some money to do what they wanted. But, at the end of December we would tell what we did with the cash. I had given some to Rayna, an eight year old girl at church. She in turn, bought some hats, gloves and mittens for our Mitten-tree. These are given to children at East Marshall, Garwin and Green Mountain schools. Some money went to Zola, a six year old friend we met at Pizza ranch. That money generated more so I gave some to Remington. It is pure joy to know these young people because they will change the world in a way God directs. This blessing reminds me of Anna and Simeon in the Jerusalem Temple. They knew the Messiah would be born and their life would be complete if they could just hold the infant Jesus. The world is full of new people who are doing good things for God’s Kingdom. Thank you Rhonda for shooing Remington to Muddy Waters so that we could see an incredible young man. In a way, we are living with God’s goodness extended through young people.
